In
my over 18 years of teaching, I have frequently been stunned at just how
little some students have learnt — or how incorrectly they’ve
been taught songs and/or techniques — when they arrive for their first
lesson with me. High on my list of what I refer to as “guitar playing
epidemics” is the fact that many guitarists aimlessly “roam the
earth” with an inability to really play more than just a few songs
through correctly from start to finish. Even many so-called “experienced”
players will know bits and pieces of a great number of songs, but will not
understand the order (or the “arrangement”) in which those bits
